Always about family

Family is a common word around the Ronald McDonald House.  We have families of sick children that stay at the House, we keep families together when they travel for medical treatment, we have a family of supporters and donors.

Listening in on a training webinar today organized by the RMHC Global office, the family definition was even broader.  We have this family here in Idaho, but we’re all part of the world-wide Ronald McDonald House Charities family.  One of over 300 Chapters that delivers the same mission, with the same passion to directly improve the health and well-being of children.  Helping thousands of families each and every day.  Wow!  That’s an amazing and humbling responsibility.

Like most families, we all function on our own, but when we come together, there’s an even stronger sense of support, kindness and love.  We all play a role in the family – everyone from the volunteer that delivered fresh produce from her garden this morning to the translator sitting with the family in the dining room helping them understand the documents that are not in their native language to the intern who stocked the snack drawer so “grab & go” treats would be available for the day.  It’s quite a statement of family support to have hundreds of people come together each month to create the Home environment of the Idaho Ronald McDonald House.  The family would be less complete without any one of them.  Family matters.

As I go about my day, the question in my mind will be “What have I done for my RMH family?”
